IT Girls
IT Girls is the iSchool's fall overnight for high school girls interested in technology. I truly enjoyed facilitating this event and getting the chance to mentor high school girls interested in technology. I helped greet the girls as they arrived to the Syracuse campus, attended their Python seminar, and bonded with the girls when stopping by their Sleepover in Archbold Gym. I am very passionate about getting more girls involved in technology. I hope to help out with this event each year.

MLB Challenge
MLB Advanced Media (MLB.com) and Syracuse University’s iSchool have teamed up to challenge iSchool and all Syracuse University students to see if they have what it takes to make it in the Big Leagues. The contest invites current students to tackle real world problems in the sports-tech industry and pitch their ideas to current MLB.com employees who are also Syracuse alums.
Each group used their technological skills and creative thinking to solve real world problems in Major League Baseball, and were given 24 hours to do so. My group, The Say Hey Kids, came up with "Recapture"

Road Trip
|
I loved joining other members of the iSchool community along with members of those majoring in Sports Management on this Tech in Sports Road Trip in NYC as it was a great opportunity not only to network, but to also explore the field. Even after the road trip, I am unsure as to what specific field in technology/business I want to venture into yet, and there is no better way to find out than to attend more road trips, like this.
ANC really hit home their point of not being a sports company, but a technology company; this was a good way to start this road trip as this proved to be a theme throughout the trip. ANC provides LED and LCD signs to help integrate multimedia systems into entertainment facilities, transportation, stadiums and retail venues. This is a way to use one’s knowledge of technology to go into any field they choose - such as sports, entertainment or retail. If one were to go into this field, one can go into anything they choose. |
While visiting Steiner Sports and Collectables, although I loved getting a tour, my favorite part of the visit was when we got the chance to speak to Brandon Steiner. I loved listening to him speak; I enjoyed all of his philosophies and advice and I will take it to heart. I not only loved his amazing advice, but I also loved his story and his brand - his personal brand. Two things that he said that will resinate with me were - I call them when I can do something for them, rather than when I need something from them - and also, “it’s not what you know, it’s not who you know, it’s what you know about who.”
I enjoyed every company we visited - Madison Square Garden, MLB Advanced
Media, Red Bull Arena (MLS), NBA Production Studios, Met Life and Providence Equity Partners. I love sports and technology, and this trip showed me how to integrate the two in way in which I can love and enjoy my job.
I truly enjoy IST 195 with Jeff Rubin as well as attending sports games in the dome, I loved learning how I can combine these interests. Along with exploring the field of Tech in Sports, I enjoyed spending more time with the iSchool community; I go the chance to advance my knowledge on “what I know about who” within the iSchool. The Tech in Sports Road Trip was a great opportunity to network and become an “alum from day one.”
